Shopping For Heavy Bags

Nowadays, where there are certain diseases and infection coming out of the woodwork, one needs not only to follow the proper diet to get those required nutrients but also, regular exercise should be part of the daily regimen. Most people get gym memberships and get a good workout there from all the available gym facilities. However, for busy people who do not have the time to go to the gym, getting good work out or exercise equipment at home is another option.

One of the more favorite exercise programs these days is boxing. Boxing which was only known before as a professional sport, can now be done by almost anyone who wants to build up their cardio vascular muscles by punching a few blows here and there. The preferred training tool most boxing fanatics are fond of is the heavy bag. You cannot always have a sparring partner to catch and receive all your blows, might as well have a heavy bag that you can always depend on to accept every punch you give it. In shopping for a punching or a heavy bag, there are certain factors that you need to consider. Here are a few of them.

* The filling. Various fillings are available for heavy bags. Popular ones are sand, rags or bits of cloths, synthetic foam and even water. What you choose depends on your preference on how heavy and how robust you want your bags to be. It has been said that heavy bags made up of sand and shredded clothing make the bag heavier than the other fillers and offer extra resistance. Bags with this type of filling look and feel more dense, sturdy and rock-solid. Some people prefer synthetic foam as fillers as these have good shock absorbing capacity. Water is a prevalent choice of filling as well. Water is especially good for women boxers as this element is able to absorb any shocks on contact and moves with your punches so there is less risks for abrasions and injuries on your wrists and on your hands. Further, some bags can come with or without filling. If you are purchasing a heavy bag online, the latter choice may be less expensive to ship as they are obviously lighter and you can always take pick from the local store on what you want to have as filling.

* Standing up or hanging down. To decide on this factor is to consider which position you will be comfortable with. Contrary to what people think, height is not an issue. You can always adjust the length of a heavy bag hanging from the ceiling according to a person's stature. If this may prove to be a convenience, better get a standing up bag. It offers the same kind of work out as a hanging bag does.

* Size matters. If your bag is too light for you, your bag may move too much that it might feel like you're actually punching a balloon. You need to have a heavy bag that suits your built and your punching ability. On average, the weight of a heavy bag goes around 70 to 100 pounds.
